Concert to bring awareness to food insecurity in Hamilton

Hamilton, ON — Serving Hands, a community outreach initiative of the Really Living Centre, is partnering with acclaimed singer-songwriter Vili V to raise vital funds for Hamilton’s homeless population through a benefit concert supporting their meal program.

Serving Hands provides warm, freshly cooked meals to individuals experiencing homelessness in downtown Hamilton on the second Saturday of each month. The initiative, powered by church members and volunteers, focuses not only on food but also on compassion and connection.

“When you come into their space and let them feel needed, wanted, loved, and cared for—it has a great impact,” says Shae Gowdie, co-leader of Serving Hands. “When they see we genuinely care, their body language shifts. They’re happy to see us.”

The program also leaves a lasting impact on the volunteers who serve.

“I could have been in the same place—you never know,” says volunteer Guy Iannucci. “Helping others makes me feel good inside. If I can make a difference in someone’s life, then that’s where I want to be.”

According to co-leader Jodene Dixon, Serving Hands aims to go beyond meeting physical needs by fostering lasting relationships and providing access to tools that encourage self-sufficiency. In addition to their monthly meal service, they collect non-perishable food year-round for low-income households.

While the program is primarily funded through the generosity of the Really Living Centre community, they are seeking to expand their reach through new partnerships—starting with this benefit concert.

About the Benefit Concert

Moved by the growing homelessness crisis in his hometown of Hamilton, Vili V reached out to Serving Hands to collaborate. His new album, In Daddy’s Arms Again, will launch at a special concert with a portion of proceeds going directly to the outreach program.

“I thought, what better way to release my new album than by helping those in need,” says Vili V in a promotional video.

Tickets are $25, with a fundraising goal of selling 375 seats. Proceeds will help sustain and expand Serving Hands’ efforts in the community.

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
