On Sunday, July 10 and Sunday, July 17, events were held to raise funds for the Peru mission trip supplies and building materials. Between the two events an impressive total of over $12,000 was raised towards the project costs.
The first event was a yard sale held at Grandview Adventist Academy. GAA offers a great location with lots of traffic, and this day was no exception with steady traffic and consistent sales throughout. Practically the whole mission trip team as well as several church members came out to help with the sale.
The following Sunday saw a BBQ and silent auction hosted at a beautiful country home near Caledonia. The home’s owner, Ben, is one of the community members — otherwise unaffiliated with our church — who will be participating in the mission trip this fall. He and his wife graciously offered to make their home available for the event, as well as sponsor most of the food that was served.
Through the efforts of several team members, silent auction items were solicited from local businesses with a total retail value estimated at around $7000. Approximately 100 people attended the event where they enjoyed live 50’s and 60’s music presented by the Whiskey River Band — friends of another community member participant of the mission trip. For the children who attended there were bouncy castles, face-painting, a swimming pool, and a Disney Princess who sang to and interacted with the children.
While this fundraiser involved an enormous amount of planning and preparation, the mission trip team and several volunteers from the church worked together really well to make it happen. Feedback from people who attended affirmed their efforts with several citing it as one of the best and most well-organized of such events they had attended.
