Free Oil Change Gives a Boost to Single Parents

Although most of our community programs have been stymied due to the pandemic, at least one outdoor event has been feasible as restrictions allow. Originally scheduled for June, 2021’s Free Oil Change for Single Parents was rescheduled when outdoor gatherings were no longer prohibited.

A beautiful not-too-hot summer day greeted volunteers on August 15, as they gathered to change the oil, perform a basic safety check, and wash the cars of the single parents/sole providers from Hamilton and area who had pre-registered to participate.

As recipients arrived for their scheduled appointment, they were offered refreshments and a shady waiting area on the patio of the Really Living Centre while their cars received a little TLC in the parking lot.

“It was a great day for comradery among volunteers, as well as an opportunity to get to know some awesome single moms and dads from our community who are working hard to raise their children in a tough time,” said one volunteer. “We’re so fortunate to be able to share this little act of service to hopefully brighten their day.”
