Before COVID-19, two Really Living Mission World trips had been planned to Peru, one for April and one for October. Along with bringing a dental team in the spring, the focus of these trips was to be construction with ADRA Peru’s ‘Warm Homes’ initiative. This project upgrades existing family homes to provide greater warmth and light, as well as cleaner air, through construction of an eco-stove and chimney in each home’s kitchen, ceiling refurbishment and insulation, installation of wooden floors in the family bedroom where mud used to be, and a ‘trombe’ wall, which basically acts as a greenhouse to warm the bedroom by as much as 10 degrees celsius.
When Coronavirus hit, plans were quickly cancelled. But the work, for ADRA Peru, went on. Funds had already been raised through Really Living to retrofit 20 homes, so the required work was done by locals. Recipients of the housing upgrades were given the opportunity to paint the walls of their homes, and many chose to thank our church by name in their designs.
Our hope is to soon be able to continue planning and hosting mission trips, to reach out to the world beyond us. Thank you ADRA Peru for your outstanding work and kindness to a world in need! May God bless your work richly!
