“He Appoints Walls and Bulwarks”
From the Egyptian Pyramids, to the Great Wall of China, to the Colosseum in Rome, some of the earth’s most renowned structures have been built using masonry. Masonry is durable, sturdy, and resistant to fire.
As the winds continue to blow, and snow continues to fall this winter, we rejoice in the progress of the masonry at The Really Living Centre. As pockets of warmer weather allow for work on the walls to continue, we are reminded of the Song of Judah from Isaiah 26, and look forward to the day when our voices, too, can be raised in celebration.
In that day this song shall be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; He appoints walls and bulwarks for security.
The irony is not missed. Yes we are building walls, but it is not to keep the community out. Rather, it is to provide a place of safety to draw people in—a place of hope and wholeness. The verse continues:
Open the gates, that the righteous nation may enter, the one who remains faithful. You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for in God the Lord we have an everlasting rock.
It’s our sincere hope that this building can be used to make the lives of our friends in the community—many of whom we’ve not met yet— happier, healthier, and more hopeful.
